When it comes to what can broadly be called "rock" music, my tastes are especially diverse. I enjoy music from the "Summer of Love" and Woodstock era, some classic rock, and a mixture from the 80's. I've been a fan of alternative since the Seattle Sound hit the scene, and was an early buyer of, for example, Green Day. Back then, some of this was expensive imports.
I got into the goth scene, hanging out in a club every weekend listening to goth, industrial, and punk. Some techno/dance also showed itself. I've coontinued to follow these areas, though it's a little harder to do now. There's only so much money I can spend.
I'll try to do this in a sort of loose chronological order:
Jefferson Airplane - I love their stuff, including some of the solo work. I'll be dead before I stop loving Grace Slick and her amazing voice.
Greatful Dead - 'nuff said.
Bruce Springsteen - I continue to respect this man and his music.
Led Zeppelin
Depeche Mode - aside from loving their music, they've been solid adopters of audiophile formats like SACD.
Midnight Oil
The Sisters of Mercy - if Dominion/Mother Russia, Lucretia, Marian, or Temple of Love don't get me on the dance floor, call the coroner.
Soundgarden - I had a great night seeing them live, and love the music. Although, Chris cut his hair by the time I saw them. :-( I continue to follow Chris Cornell.
Pearl Jam - Great band! I love their stuff, and always have. Of course, I love their precursor, Mother Love Bone. If you like the sound but haven't heard Temple of the Dog (Pearl Jam together with Soundgarden), shame on you!
Smashing Pumpkins
Bad Religion - I've seen them twice! I have most albums. Our neighbour across the street loved my shirt; he doesn't feel alone any more. :-)
KMFDM - I've seen them twice as well. Rocking party!
Enigma - Cretu is a genius.
Dead Can Dance
Faith and the Muse
Radiohead - how many times did Renota and I dance to them, Soundgarden, or Screaming Trees at The Bronx?
VNV Nation - Constantin turned me on to him.
Rammstein - great hard-core sound with a sense of humour.
Ministry - is there an album I don't have? I still love "Jesus Built My Hotrod." I've seen them twice, once with RevCo. The RevCo drummer went through a drum stick every minute or two.
Lacuna Coil - what can I say? Goth/rock in at least three languages. I love the mix.
Nine Inch Nails - this list could not be complete without them and Trent Reznor's devotion to his art.
There are many missing from this list. Many, like Switchblade Symphony, disappeared too quickly. Others, like Lacrimosa (an absolute favourite) are just too expensive to import right now. But, I will expand my collections with those artists/albums still available when I have the money.
